Become a “Samsung”-Reporter at IAAF 2009

Samsung Electronics, one of the main-sponsors of this years IAAF, is looking for young and enthusiastic reporters, between the age of 10 and 16.

This year the “International Association of Athletics Federations”, short IAAF, is going to take place in the German capital, Berlin and 4 lucky winners will be awarded with the unique opportunity, and once-in-a-lifetime experience to meet their “idols” backstage.
In order to enhance this “reporter”-experience, each of them will work and enjoy this event under the guidance of a professional reporter.

Besides being selected, all 4 winners will receive professional equipments to become a “true” reporter, including a reporter cap, bag and least but not last, a top-notch camera from Samsung.
So if you’re between 10 and 16, self pro-claimed sports/stars/technology geek with the passion and interest to work behind the scenes send in your applications, consisting 10 lines, to convince us that you are the “perfect pick”.

Samsung IAAF 2009 Microsite Launched!

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., leading manufacturer of more than 60 products, including mobile-phones, TV, digital imaging devices and household products, announced the 3-year partnership back in May, making Samsung one of the biggest main-sponsors of this event.
And today, Samsung Electronics is delighted to present its dedicated microsite, featuring exclusive information’s and events of the 2009-edition of the International Association of Athletics Federations, better known as IAAF. Further, does it provide visitors with the opportunity to participate in online game events, to grab one of the most precious prizes, including a paid trip to Germany or alternative to Daegu, the city in Korea which is going to host the IAAF in 2010.
The new microsite also focuses on this year’s IAAF products from Samsung, such as the Samsung LED TV 8090, Samsung Jet S8000, Samsung WF-8724 and the Samsung WB550 (HZ15W).

Chasseur D’Image, a leading photography magazine in France, recently awarded the Samsung WB1000(TL320) with 5, out of 5, stars. Besides highly praising the Samsung WB1000(TL320), for its top-notch performance, Chasseur D’Image did not unstinting in Samsung’s praise by stating, that Samsung finally established itself among the top of digital imaging companies. As for the Samsung WB1000(TL320), Chasseur D’Image was amazed by the great product design, which also includes the attached AMOLED display. Furthermore, the review also emphasized the ease-of-use, resulting out of the smart-wheel. Chasseur D’Image also broke down the quality of each pictures in different ISO-setting, which proofed to be, as outstanding as the other components of the Samsung WB1000(TL320).

The Samsung WB1000(TL320), not only delivered very good results at low ISO-settings, but also impressed at high ISO-settings.

Prologue

I used the WB1000(TL320) for a long time. Most of all, I like the WB1000(TL320) providing setting for good picture in various situations, and it’s even precious to me. This is the first review posting for me. I’d like to help you who are looking for a stylish digital camera.

2. Why WB1000(TL320) / Main function

Lens

The most important thing of digital cameras is the lens performance. The WB1000(TL320) has F2.8[W]-5.8[T], and has great image quality using the Schneider lens. Especially, the 24mm ultra wide angle is suitable to get all angles when taking pictures. When taking a traveling picture, there’s no cut for building or scenery, and it’s also good for portrait shots.

24mm wide angle lens can take famous buildings without cutting.

(Especially, if you consider trip to Europe, you should select a digital camera having wide angle such as the WB1000(TL320).

AMOLED

Different from other digital cameras, the WB1000(TL320) has adopted the AMOLED for the first time. The AMOLEDS shows incomparably great color and clean image, so it’s called ‘Display of dream’. From any angle, there’s no difference of light and darkness, and under the sunlight, you can see the screen, so it’s the best screen.

Manual shot mode A/S/M

It’s the representative function of the WB1000(TL320), using the smart dial, you can adjust iris and shutter speed to take pictures. You can freely adjust out focusing and exposure, so you can get pictures you want. It’s useful for those who want to learn pictures with manual shot function like DSLR and want to have a sub camera.

Smart Dial

Setting shots by rotating a dial is another advantage of the WB1000(TL320). Almost all settings can be done by rotating the dial such as shutter speed, iris, white balance, and focus region. When setting the M mode using iris and shutter speed as a fully manual set, the convenience of the smart dial is more outstanding. Easy and fast setting is possible, so it helps take good pictures.

Great high ISO noise reduction (High ISO test)

Even though it’s a 12.2M pixels camera, the WB1000(TL320) has relatively stable high ISO noise. The noise reduction as an advantage of Samsung cameras gets better with the WB1000(TL320). There’s no noise from ISO80~400, and ISO 800 shows great quality. There’s some noise on ISO 1600, but not as much as other cameras, and it’s good enough to upload on the web site after resizing.

HD video recording function

The video quality of the WB1000(TL320) using H.264 codec is as great as some handy camcorder. This can take an HD video for 20 minutes at 30 fps, and by adopting the H.264 format, it can record the best quality video with a small capacity. When recoding, if you are zooming, the sound is not recorded, but it’s good enough to take life with high quality videos.

4. Design

Sensible and stylish design

The appearance of the WB1000(TL320) is outstanding with metallic and luxurious design. Adding the rubber grip on the front, this looks better. On the whole, the color and design are mixed well.

The dashboard showing the status of memory and battery is the second face of the WB1000(TL320). As a unique design, I saw people were so wondering when they saw this.

By putting the smart dial, buttons were minimized at the back. The neat whole composition is noticeable.

Epilogue

The WB1000(TL320) will be a great gift looking for a high performance and good design camera. The general resolution of the camera is really good, and there’s rarely chromatism on the lens. 12.2M pixels shows the real value for high ISO pictures, and the screen of AMOLED deserves to be loved by digital camera mania. Except the weakness stopping voice recording while zooming, the HD video recording function is much more useful than any other cameras. And the manual shot function is good for beginners and users who want to know more about pictures.

Samsung ST500 and ST550 dual-LCD touchscreen digicams appear

Samsung’s latest digital cameras, the ST500 and ST550, have shown up for sale at Amazon UK, complete with dual LCD displays. The pair – which each have 12.2-megapixel sensors, 4.6x optical zooms and 720p HD video recording modes – have one large touchscreen display on the rear, while a secondary 1.5-inch LCD panel next to the lens can be used to display a preview of the shot or settings status.

The two cameras differ by virtue of their rear LCD size, with the ST500 having a 3-inch touchscreen and the ST550 having a larger 3.5-inch touchscreen. Both have image stabilization and haptic feedback, and support Samsung’s “Tap and Take” system which was first teased earlier this month.

As for pricing, the Samsung ST500 is listed for £249 ($411) on Amazon UK and available in black with red, silver or blue highlights. The Samsung ST550, meanwhile, is £299 ($493) in purple, gold or orange variants.

Samsung's new compacts in person: front LCDs, GPS and WiFi don't go to waste

We just got a quick look at Samsung's new trio, the TL220, TL225 and CL65, and outside of some pretty impressive specs, all three cameras offer a nice bit of innovation and looks in their own special ways. The TL220 and TL225 are the most interesting, with those snazzy front-facing LCDs. Luckily, that creepy clown picture from the press shots is just for entertaining children, and it's easy enough to switch it to a live view of our charming, MySpace-ready face. Meanwhile the CL65 offers WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth 2.0 in a rather attractive package, and has a surprisingly usable WiFi upload interface for launching pictures and photos up to the wide blue internets. Check out a video of the TL225 (which bests the TL220 with a supercharged 3.5-inch LCD) after the break.
