Hands on with the Samsung WB700 and NX11

It’s not always easy to get kids to flash a smile or pay attention to the camera, especially when you’re all huddled together flashing wacky faces or flaunting formal poses waiting for the flash to go off. The photographer begins the inevitable countdown: “3, 2, 1…”
And it is that exact moment that Junior decides he wants to pull your hair or scream for ice cream or look the other way as the picture gets snapped.

Samsung Blog Reveals Incredible Retro NX Prototypes

We first got wind that Samsung was planning a micro four-thirds competitor in 2009, when they unveiled the NX prototype at PMA, their first attempt at an interchangeable lens compact (ILC) camera. A new blog post from Samsung shows us just how radically different some of their prototypes were, and how much things changed between the various stages of design and the eventually released NX10.

Samsung NX11 review(2)

Can the Samsung NX11 reinvent the hybrid camera category or is it much the same as the previous NX10 model but repackaged? We first got our hands on the Samsung NX11 back in January, where an extensive play with the latest hybrid or compact system camera showed us little advances over the previous NX10 model rather than a giant leap forward...

Samsung NX11 review(1)

Compact system camera is a minor refinement, but handles well
The 14.6 effective megapixel Samsung NX11 upgrades the original NX10 (read our review here), with some refining design tweaks and additional lens compatibility, a 20mm ‘pancake’ plus 20-50mm zoom, launched alongside it. But although it is a compact system camera (or CSC) like its predecessor it still takes its style cues from a conventional bridge camera or digital SLR, rather than a pocket compact.

Samsung NX11 review

Samsung NX11 reviews

Samsung TL500 Review

Samsung TL500 Full Review

Samsung's TL500 (EX-1 in Europe) is not your typical compact digital camera. The TL500 can function nicely as a point and shoot camera, but it was designed for photo enthusiasts. The very compact TL500 is attractive in an understated way, feels solid and stable in your hands, and features a robustly constructed all metal body with a genuine handgrip.

Most current point-and-shoots come with a flimsy wrist strap, but the TL500 sports a neckstrap which not only provides better protection against drops and bumps, but also saves a few seconds when a Kodak moment occurs since the camera is always at hand rather than in your pocket (or worse, at home). The TL500, unlike the auto exposure only point-and-shoots currently dominating the imaging marketplace, permits full manual control of exposure.
The TL500's first-rate 3x zoom (from legendary German lens maker Schneider-Kreuznach) features a very fast f/1.8 maximum aperture, which makes it almost a full f-stop faster (it lets in nearly twice as much light as the f/2.8 maximum apertures of the vast majority of current point-and-shoots) than most of its competition. Faster lenses are, everything else being equal, better than slower lenses because they substantially increase low light/natural light options for serious photographers.
