FIT and spring

For the first time in this year, I felt spring is coming. I was exhausted to wait for the warm weather and sun. One day, I was working on campus and I thought it is going to be a good idea to introduce how my school looks like. I might have wanted to capture the scenes that I have been seeing for 3 years because I am officially going to graduate this May. Anyway, enjoy the young spirit and passion for fashion.

Do you still remember that argument with your friends or family when you believed that Santa Claus was coming to you bringing a bunch of toys through your chimney and they told me it was not true? Yes, I do. I wanted to believe in Santa Claus because I didn’t want to lose my innocent mind. I was a child who was technically supposed to be innocent. Indeed, I believed what I wanted to believe.

One cold rainy day, I walk along the street near a major department store by chance and find that gorgeous Christmas displays grab my attention. I mumble to myself, ‘Wow, well done, they must be spending so much money on this decoration. Look at the moving dolls and LCD screens! Impressively detailed snow balls!’ I suddenly start critiquing the degree of completion and how the theme is organized with other components. I realize that I’m not seeing the Christmas embellishments with the same eyes that I used to. It does not give me the feeling of a mysterious wonderland like it did when I was young. It’s nothing I haven’t been told or seen before. I feel I lose my innocence as time goes by. Actually, I have had the feeling for a long time.

I want to purify myself by changing my perspective from the adult’s point of view to twinkling eyes of a child, full of curiosity about everything that makes me wonder. Is it a little bit cheesy for me to think that way? Is it too late? Or seriously, am I getting old?

Crazy night out

I had waited, waited, and waited for Halloween Parade so badly. The weather on that day, however, did not stand by me. It was RAINING!!!!!

The Halloween Parade in West Village was planned to start at 6 pm but was postponed for an hour due to the weather. I managed to complete my own costume by 7 pm and took pictures with my coworkers to celebrate a happy Halloween. (I work at the computer lab on campus)

My costume is a female Korean historical entertainer from 16 century, Hwang Jin Yi. Korean fashion designer, Younghee Lee, actually inspired me and I adopted most of the design from her. It was a shame that I couldn’t finish a gorgeous hat for my hair and traditional type of handbag. But I could comfort myself being proud of the fact that I made the dress by myself. In the middle, my supervisor Patrick is being a western cowboy, and my Japanese friend Mariko is acting as Marie, a cat character from Disney animation, The Aristocats.

So I hurried up to get dressed and put on my makeup. Tada~ what do you think?

I directly headed to the party instead of watching the parade in the rain. I saw a number of people who were taking a train to move from west to east side.

The majority of people who are over 21 years old usually celebrate Halloween at a bar or a club or a private house party after the parade. I RSVP’d to one wine bar near Spring Street at which the parade ended.

I asked these two ladies to pose for me. Yeah, she is ready to dive in!

She represented Amelia, who is an American aviation pioneer. Recently the movie Amelia was released.

He was dressed up as a dwarf from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. But it was funny that big figured person was acting like a tiny dwarf.

I guess this guy was promoting the website or was dressed up as an elementary particle in physics.

While I was running to another bar, I saw little angels in the doorway. I could not pass without capturing the moment.

I “met” one of my favorite designers, Karl Lagerfeld.

He is my friend, Wil, dressed up as Alex from A Clockwork Orange. He put on mascara on his right eye to exaggerate the character’s uneven eyes. I loved the detail and I laughed at his so-so British accent.

Even though the main purpose of Halloween is diluted, the holiday gives people the opportunity to express themselves and enjoy the escape from the daily life. Plus, you can enjoy sweetness of the “trick or treat.”

Invitation to my world!

Hi, everyone. My name is Ara. I’m living in New York City, studying Fashion Merchandising Management. I’ll go by MINY, which is an acronym of my brand name, May in New York. I had several ideas for the very first post. As you know, “first” means a lot. However, I decided not to go crazy about quality of pictures, or significant impact of the text. I’ll just share a bit of my life and my interests little by little at a time. So, I’m going to rely on my funny friends this time.

I went to my friend, Robin’s house party. She invited those who attended International Fashion Merchandising Management Program in Florence, Italy. We all had a great time during last semester, taking same classes, or traveling together in Europe. It brought us to be bonded among others closely due to the fact that we spent so much time together. HaHa

I asked my friends to make funny and silly faces. And there we go!!! They are Chloe, Casey, Alex, Mya, and Abby. They are smart, talented, creative and FUNNY!!!!! They are photogenic and are willing to mess up their faces or actions for lively and exuberant shots. I love them so much.

It was my first trial to actually use the camera. I haven’t read the manual from the CD because I thought I could handle it without problems. But I should’ve done it before I showed off my fancy little baby. But I like these types of blurry shots not using flash. It gives more natural colors and coincidental moments.

I adjusted photo’s hue to cover the imperfection of the shot and to make the mood unusual.

I couldn’t stop laughing for a while after looking at these photos. It reminds me of Rolling Stones’ logo.

He is Daniel, Catherine’s boyfriend, who is a photographer. He was the only one who noticed the most important feature of the camera, Self-Portrait. You can see yourself on the front screen, while taking pictures of yourself.

So I followed him to take my self-portrait while I was eating Entenmann’s marshmallow chocolate cake.
