The Samsung HMX-H100P was “Clickx Choice”, the best in a HD camcorder test in Belgium!

Clickx Magazine, a most well-known computer magazine in Belgium, recently awarded the Samsung HMX-H100P with the “Clickx Choice” awards.

Besides the HMX-H100P, the Samsung R10 was also able to claim itself a spot among the tested devices, finishing with a great score of 7, out of 10.
However, the praises of the Flemish publishers were reserved for the HMX-H100P:

Beautiful and handy
The HMX-H100P is quite a big guy.
The combination of the silver-white & black look of the body and the glossy black of the screen makes the H100P the most beautiful device in this test.
Thanks to the pleasant grip it is nice to hold this device. You can turn the grip 180 degrees to avoid a painful wrist.
The control keys are perfectly placed, under our fingers, what makes filming with this Samsung a real pleasure.

Good image
Thanks to the 37mm wide angle lens, this H100P gives us quite some HD image. You can also take pictures with this device and this till 4.7mp. We are very pleased with the moving images as well as with the still pictures.
You can zoom until 10x optical. The 2.7 inch touch screen is quite good, we do have the impression that the screen of the R10 reacts a bit better.

The menu’s are almost identical to those of the R10 and can please us all the way.

When you open the screen you can see some new buttons. This way you can activate the image stabilizer or start the Easy Q modus.
You can connect this Samsung to your TV set with a HDMI- or video cable. They only deliver a component cable in the box.

Especially the outstanding quality of the images, good grip and design of menu were emphasized and pinpointed as “the” products-strengths, stating: “[…] When we look at design, as well as, user-friendliness and image quality, our personal choice is the Samsung HMX-H100P.”

Review: Samsung SMX-F34 flash memory camcorder

Short Version: Samsung has put out another well-priced, nicely-featured camcorder in the SMX-F34. If you’re looking for a little more than a simple handheld flash memory camcorder but don’t want to pay top dollar for a high-definition video camera, this model deserves a closer look thanks to marathon battery life, good image quality, 16GB of built-in storage, and a 34x optical zoom all at under $300.

Overview and Features

The Samsung SMX-F34 features the following (full specs here):

1/6-inch CCD image sensor
30mm lens with 34x optical zoom
2.7-inch swivel LCD
16GB of built-in storage, plus support for SD(HC) and MMC+ memory cards
H.264 video codec (MainConcept AVC/AAC — .MP4 files) at up to 720×480 resolution (see sample file below)
Up to 3 hours of battery life
MSRP of $299.99, but it’s available for around $250 just about everywhere
If you’ve seen my review of the SC-MX20, the SMX-F34 is similar except that it’s got built-in memory, longer battery life, and has a few new features like time-lapse recording and the ability to shoot still images.

Video Quality

Video is shot using the MainConcept AVC/AAC H.264 codec, which produces .mp4 files. The files are easy to work with using most popular video editing software. I personally use Sony Vegas, which handles the files just fine. I’ve had trouble with files from similarly-equipped JVC and Panasonic camcorders, though. The last thing I want to do before editing video is to have to convert it to a usable format first. The files from Samsung camcorders have been usable straight off of the camera — no fuss, no muss.

Here’s an unedited sample file that shows off the 34x zoom and that you can use to see if this camera will work with your video editing software. The file was shot about two hours before dusk, full zoom, with image stabilization turned off.

Files can be read directly off SD or MMC cards or transferred via USB. Transfer time for a 500-megabyte file takes about three minutes.

Battery Life

Samsung pegs the battery life at three hours. I was able to shoot video continuously for two and a half hours, so that three-hour claim likely factors in multiple shots with breaks in between. Whatever the case, I never travelled with the power cord as the battery life was always long enough that I didn’t worry much about it at all.

Additional Features

Aside from just recording video, the SMX-F34 features still image capture, face detection, time-lapse recording, various scene modes, YouTube uploading, image stabilization, windscreen, and more. The camera’s handle swivels 180 degrees, which makes it easy to hold at most angles.

Recommendation:

I think Samsung’s line of flash memory camcorders still represent the best value for the money thanks to the long battery life and good codec support. If you don’t need or want an HD camcorder and you like the idea of having 16GB of on-board memory in case you forget an SD card, you want to take still photos, and you like the time lapse feature, then the $249 street price of the SMX-F34 is pretty tough to beat.

Otherwise, if you can find the SC-MX20 for around $200, that’s a great deal too. You just lose the still images, the time lapse, and you’ll need to supply a memory card.

The WB500 which started the Samsung digital imaging has come back with higher tuning such as high resolution and bigger LCD based on the smart auto. Certainly, they caused some kind of confusion, because it s been such a short time delay after releasing the WB500, but the WB550 means the improved Samsung. After actually using it, I could see things getting better than the WB500 which are not in the specification. From 24mm wide angle to 240 tele photo zoom angle, the WB500 has the widest FOV among compact digital cameras having more than optical 10x zoom. Besides, additional functions and manual functions. Only with them, the value of the WB500 is enough.

Why do people use DSLR despite its inconvenience? Some people just like to show off, but most of the DSLR users want various manual functions and fast operation to take more satisfying pictures. (In my case, since my camera and lens weighs more than 3kg, if I take shots for a long time, my hand hurts for a few days. In spite of that, I keep using them because I can take pictures more accurately and quickly with them.)

Recently released compact cameras have video recording function and other additional functions that are not supported by DSLR. So for snap shots, they’re a lot more convenient than DSLRs. But for more professional shooting, it is not as satisfying because of its lack of manual functions. (It’s not simply about image quality. Nowadays, compact cameras have image quality as good as DSRLs.)

WB1000 in this review has both strengths of DSLR and compact digital cameras. It supports perfect manual functions and has portability and various additional functions of compact cameras.
　
I have high expectation for this because this one shows the best capacity among the Samsung Digital Imaging products on market. Through various tests, let’s find out its image quality and how its operation differs from fromer compact cameras.

MY first trip with ST10~

I bought the Samsung’s ST10. I really wanted to show out my new camera to my friends.
So I arranged to go to the science exhibition with my friends today…
They all said it looks so small in my hand…

The exhibition was based on insects juxtaposed with robots…Quite interesting huh?

WB1000 – What is Seoul to you?

Photography Exhibition- VLUU in Seoul with WB1000
Hello! Are you in Seoul right now? If you haven’t been to Seoul, please take time to read this post. You’ll be able to discover the quiet yet vibrant Seoul in the photos displayed below. If the opportunity allows, you may want to visit the exhibition.
The title of the exhibition is “VLUU in Seoul with WB1000”. The subtitle of the exhibition is “Becoming a professional photographer with VLUU”. To celebrate the release of Samsung digital camera WB1000, 10 professional photographers have taken on the role of mentors and 10 testers as mentees to catch the images of Seoul. Every picture was so great that it was hard to distinguish pictues that were taken by the professionals and those by the testers.

There were a lot of black and white photos and the quality and the sensitivity were no less than DSLR. One thing that was lacking is that maybe because I was there at a weekday afternoon, there weren’t a lot of people. But I was able to enjoy the exhibition at a leisurely pace.

On one side of the wall is a log from the testers. Although I don’t know the details, I can still feel their enthusiasm and excitement. If there is another event like, this I’d like to participate.


Admission is free and it’s not hard to find. I hope you can stop by and enjoy the classic beauty of Seoul.

Popular Photography Magazine, who is also widely known for their top-notch internet community “POPPHOTO.COM”, tested no less than 150 new products in this special-issue, and ranked the Samsung HZ15W(WB550) on the very top of the crop of digital imaging devices.
To be precious, the article describes the Samsung HZ15W(WB550), as follows: “Samsung brings a rare view to the superzoom compact – and we mean that literally. The starting focal length on this 10X, 12-megapixel model is equivalent, in the 25mm format, to 24mm. That’s wider than the 28mm on other wide-angle models, and better for both big views and cramped interiors. It is still a bit cold, but cherry blossom is proving that spring has come. People are dressing lightly and look livelier than in freezing winter. (The good season has come for taking pictures. In winter, people used to stay inside due to cold weather and gloomy environment, but now it s time to go outside. I used to put my digital camera home in winter season, but I m planning to go out more now.)
Samsung Digital Imaging s WB550 is the most recent one of the high-class WB series. Compared to the former WB550, many things are upgraded. And it s good to carry and take high quality pictures in such a good weather like these days. (Some important features are upgraded such as Smart Auto, HDMI, image resolution, etc.)
It will be definitely different from popularized products. From this review, we ll take a look at its various functions and quality of photos and videos.

24mm ultra wide angle optical 10x Schneider lens compact digital camera, Samsung WB550 design

Starting 2009, 24mm ultra wide angle, optical 10x zoom compact digital camera Samsung WB500 was an issue. There had been optical 10x zoom digital camera, but the WB500 was the first for 24mm ultra wide angle. In a word, the WB500 has the widest angle lens digital camera among compact digital cameras.

WB550 is Comming

It s not yet released, but I ve got the WB550 anyway. After taking pre-shots for 2 days, I think I will like this much. Most of all, it has 24mm wide angle like the LX3, and it also has 240mm tele photo zoom not 60mm which the LX3 had. I might use the LX more, if it supported better tele photo lens. I had the FX180 also, so I thought the FX180 fit me more. (The price was double.)
I like the HD video recording. It can zoom and record voice while recording. When are you Olympus supporting the zoom for video recording.. I will handle them in the review, but I like the detailed setting and accuracy when taking shots. I like the intuitive UI much, and the best thing is the price, I think. It has only 60% of Panasonic cameras which are compared to Samsung cameras. Looking at new products, they make great pictures and have wonderful performance, so I expect the Samsung to be a global brand.
I don t like this is an upgraded model of the WB500 which was released at the end of the last year, but I like the Samsung understand and reflecting customers needs. As a matter of fact, 80% of digital cameras are made by Japanese brands, so I m not the only one who hopes the Samsung is doing a good job in this market. Anyway, I think I need a kind of studio. Recently, it s getting more to review, but I have neither a strobe nor studio, so sometimes I needed better quality. I don t want to blame it for my instruments. It s because I don t have good skills to take pictures, but it s worse due to poor environments.

[WB550] WB550 Stand by...

WB550 supporting ultra wide 24mm angle and optical 10x zoom. It s not yet released, but gets attention from a lot of people. I ve got an opportunity to review the Samsung WB550 coincidentally. Recently, a lot of products have been released from Samsung as VLUU series. In the compact digital camera market getting bigger occupied by Japanese brands and products, Samsung digital imaging shows their future with the WB550, and I d like to talk about the possibility one by one. Let s find out the WB550 through the preview which will be posted. If I had more time, I would go traveling with the WB550..The best sub digital camera for travel?

A little while ago, Samsung digital imaging has released premium-compact camera WB550. Professional photographers usually carry DSLR as a main camera with a sub camera and camcorder. When it comes to me, I had used Nikkon P5000 as a sub and gave it to my wife. And I ve been using Xacti HD1000. However, at this time, I ve got an opportunity to use the Samsung WB550. A few months ago, Samsung already released the WB500 and got a good appraisal from various countries. The WB550 is an upgraded model of the WB500.

Looking at the box of the PL10, it s a quite small box. I have experienced 2 cameras which DSLR I m using now and another Samsung digital camera my sister bought 3 years ago. And the PL10 is so small that it can fit women s hand.
