Samsung NX100 review

The Samsung NX100 is an innovative camera, but not always a practical one. The compact interchangeable lens camera has a handsome and slim body, but you should hang on to it carefully because it doesn’t include a textured grip. Inside is a large APS-C image sensor that captures 14.6-megapixels of resolution. This means that you get the same sized sensor as in many standard DSLRs, but in a smaller overall package. Samsung designed a clever iFunction control system that lets you adjust some of the most common camera settings from controls on the lens itself. Yet, neither the 20-50mm kit zoom, nor the body, includes image stabilisation. There’s a smart system for automatic exposure selection, but no built-in flash.

When thinking about a NX100 as the next possible camera for you, the real question is, does innovation outweigh its shortcomings?

Gadget review: Samsung NX100

If you’re looking for a compact, lightweight alternative to a DSLR, Samsung NX100 will be ideal for you.

Riding on the success of NX10, Samsung’s first mirrorless camera, NX100 also comes with a mirrorless APS-C size sensor and a three-inch AMOLED screen, plus new features such as i-Function Lens.

Mirrorless cameras were one of the digital camera trends in 2010, and they are expected to grow this year as more companies jump on the bandwagon.

What makes them special is that even though you can still play with interchangeable lenses, the same as you do with a DLSR, mirrorless cameras are much smaller and lighter.

There’s no need to explain the technicalities behind the reduction in size and weight, but do take note that mirrorless cameras don’t come with a viewfinder — this means the main source for viewing your photograph subjects is through the rear LCD or AMOLED screen.

Samsung TL500 Review

Samsung TL500 Full Review

Samsung's TL500 (EX-1 in Europe) is not your typical compact digital camera. The TL500 can function nicely as a point and shoot camera, but it was designed for photo enthusiasts. The very compact TL500 is attractive in an understated way, feels solid and stable in your hands, and features a robustly constructed all metal body with a genuine handgrip.

Most current point-and-shoots come with a flimsy wrist strap, but the TL500 sports a neckstrap which not only provides better protection against drops and bumps, but also saves a few seconds when a Kodak moment occurs since the camera is always at hand rather than in your pocket (or worse, at home). The TL500, unlike the auto exposure only point-and-shoots currently dominating the imaging marketplace, permits full manual control of exposure.
The TL500's first-rate 3x zoom (from legendary German lens maker Schneider-Kreuznach) features a very fast f/1.8 maximum aperture, which makes it almost a full f-stop faster (it lets in nearly twice as much light as the f/2.8 maximum apertures of the vast majority of current point-and-shoots) than most of its competition. Faster lenses are, everything else being equal, better than slower lenses because they substantially increase low light/natural light options for serious photographers.

samsung NX100 Review

The evolution continues with the next NX: Samsung NX100

The NX100 is the second generation of compact system camera (CSC) developed by Samsung this year. Following in the footsteps
of the NX10 the new model takes on a more slimline look, akin to Panasonic’s GF1 or Sony’s NEX cameras.
Beneath the streamlined exterior, the NX100 still packs a punch with a 14.6MP APS-C sensor that stands it apart from the micro four thirds offerings from Olympus and Panasonic. This larger sensor, in theory, should produce image results similar to a DSLR, many of which also offer APS-C sensors.
Although we tend to focus mainly on camera bodies when we review, the big feature here is iFunction. Although this is accessed via a button situated on the lens, the iFunction feature changes the way you shoot. Depress the button and shooting options appear along the bottom of the three-inch AMOLED screen. Scroll through these by pressing the button until you reach the feature you want to manipulate. Choose from aperture, shutter speed, white balance, ISO, exposure compensation and scene modes. Then simply twist the focus ring on the lens to scroll up through aperture values or apply EV, for example.
The benefit of this system is that everything is available at your fingertips, without having to change your shooting stance. With the right hand on the Shutter button and the left cupped around the lens, changes can be made quickly, without having to look away and then recompose the original scene. We even tried this lens on the older Samsung NX10. After we applied the firmware update, we found the iFn lens and the viewfinder made for a great combination.

SAMSUNG EX1

Nothing can stop Samsung digital cameras. They introduced innovative functions such as Front Display, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, and also lead the mirrorless interchangeable lens camera market with the NX10 having APS-C sensor (It has already been sold over 20,000 NX10s and keeps going on.) Unlike the previous cheap cameras, now they release various products from entry level to high end level. (The quality has been drastically increased and a lot of additional functions have been added.)

The Samsung EX1 which I’m reviewing is the result of Samsung digital camera struggling in the domestic digital camera market. I think. Unlike other popularized compact cameras focusing on beginners, the EX1 is a camera for professionals with great design and amazing specifications. (I could see the change of Samsung in performance and functions.)

I heard this is more satisfactory than the NX10. I’m really wondering if it’s true. Let’s take a look at them one by one.

[NX10, 20mm F2.8] How is the convenience of i-Function lenses?

Recently, mirrorless cameras are popular in the digital camera market, because the big size of DSLRs has been reduced by eliminating the mirror and the quality is also great with the APS-C sensor which is the same as DSLRs.

These mirrorless cameras are the best with a small pancake lens. That’s why I’m going to take a closer look at the Samsung 20mm F2.8 i-Function Pancake lens released with the NX10.

[Samsung NX100] New way to shoot with i-Function as a mirrorless camera

New way to shoot with i-Function as a mirrorless camera

The usage of cameras is divided by the size. Compact cameras have strength in the size, but weakness in the quality, and DSLRs have the weakness in the mobility.

That’s why people tried to look for a portable and high quality camera, and the result is the mirrorless cameras. Mirror and penta prism were taken out from DSLR cameras, they are relatively small, and the larger APS-C sensor than compact cameras allows high quality.

Especially, Samsung Digital Imaging has released their third mirrorless camera NX100. The previous NX10 looked like a small DSLR, but the NX100 looks like a compact digital camera, and by adopting the i-Function which controls the body from the lens, it becomes more convenient. In this review, I’m going to take a closer look at the Samsung NX100.

The NX100 and 20-50mm lens used for this review were not an official version, so they might be different from the official products.

New change with time share

Ultra Slim pancake single lens

Samsung NX 20mm F2.8 i-Function

In 2010, a lot of new and unique products were released. Cameras with new functions kept being released, and more advanced cameras have been made. However, customers don’t like it any more from a certain point. Now, they know a new model would come out soon, so they hesitate to purchase a new one, and even they don’t trust the brand. They are sick and tired of the frequent changes and small improvement. Then, what should all the brands do? Yes, they need to concentrate on the time share rather than a market share

SAMSUNG NX10 LIMITED SPECIAL EDITION

01_PREMIUM LIMITED EDITION

‘After a storm comes a calm’ I don’t think there was a camera having a lot of troubles as much as the NX10. A lot of things happened when it was released, and users said it was too early. However, the NX10 got over the critics and created its own category called mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. Samsung defines NX as a culture. There were a lot of negative reactions to the product such as it should have been slimmer without the viewfinder, not well finished, and so on. However, it has finally been appraised as an easy and convenient mirrless interchangeable camera, and I see a lot of the NX10 a round.
