Samsung's HMX-R10 HD camcorder aims for April release

Samsung's devilishly cute HMX-R10 camcorder stole the hearts of many at CES, but ever since, we've been aimlessly wandering about Sammy's website attempting to locate clues on pricing and availability. Thankfully, it seems some answers are starting to surface, and we've only got a month or so before we discover whether these whispers were laced in truth. Reportedly, this pocket-friendly high-def camcorder will be hitting UK streets next month, with early estimates pegging the price at $550. We're told that Americans may have to wait until sometime this summer before they too can indulge, but at least the Britons will be able to test it out beforehand and give you a little heart-to-heart buying advice

Samsung HMX-R10, SMX-FX34: SD and HD in your pocket

Samsung has launched a brace of pocketable camcorders, the 'Full HD' digital HMX-R10 and YouTube-tastic SMX-FX34. The FX34 includes solid-state flash memory, as demonstrated above, while the R10 has a cute angled lens design.
The FX34 has a top resolution of 720x480, as well as a YouTube mode that shoots in native YouTube size and format. It features face detection for up to five subjects. Video is saved in H.264 compressed format, which allows for 8 hours of standard-definition video on the 16GB of internal flash memory. It also supports SD and SDHC cards.
The R10 packs a 9-megapixel 1/2.33-inch CMOS imaging sensor, with interpolation bumping stills up to 12-megapixels. A built-in strobe flash sheds light on proceedings. You also get a 5x optical zoom and optical image stabilisation.
Both camcorders include a decent-sized 69mm (2.7-inch) LCD touchscreen. Secondary controls are placed on the bezel so you can wave your camcorder around with impunity, which is also useful with Samsung's unique swivel grip.

Samsung HMX-R10 First Impressions Camcorder Review

The Samsung HMX-R10 is creating quite a stir among gadget lovers for its unique sloping lens and curvilinear design. At the heart of the new camcorder is a new grip: the angled lens means that you hold the camcorder at an angle that's more comfortable for your wrist. But there are some interesting features under the hood too: an enormous 1/2.33-inch, high resolution sensor, a bevvy of still photography features, and the same elegantly intuitive menu system and manual controls that Samsung featured in last year's lineup.Lens & SensorThe HMX-R10 has a unique 8x optical full HD lens. There is no lens cap, but the tempered glass is designed to withstand bumps and scratches. The lens is also angled at 25 degrees, which changes the way you hold the camcorder. The new grip is unintuitive at first, but ultimately more comfortable and ergonomic. The R10 is also equipped with the highest resolution sensor of any Samsung camcorder—and one of the largest. This could produce impressive low light results and it promises to make the R10 an intriguing choice for a video/still hybrid.

We'll give you one guess based on that image (and headline) above what showed up on our doorstep today. Samsung's SC-HMX20C isn't your mother's camcorder -- this bad boy captures clips in stunning 1080p and fits within the palm of a smallish hand. It's been a long wait since CES to get a finalized unit here to toy with, but while we're testing this thing out, why not flip around in the gallery below to see what Sammy's latest flagship is made of?Update: Yeah, we're testing it out and will have video and a review up shortly. For those wondering, it should be filtering out to stores now for around $850.

Furthermore, users are able to connect the SC-HMX20C to their laptop or PC via a USB connection and share their home movies with family and friends quickly and easily. For added value and convenience, this multifunctional HD camcorder also delivers among the best still camera functionality within a camcorder on the market—up to 8 megapixels size through pixel-rising technology.
The SC-HMX20C’s performance is the result of cutting-edge design coupled with innovative technologies in HD recording. The SC-HMX20C features a 6.4-megapixel CMOS with electronic image stabilization so even action-packed scenes come through with clarity. Featuring an HDMI-CEC (Anynet+) high-quality connection to HDTVs and other devices, consumers can easily control the camcorder through their Samsung HDTV remote while viewing movies.
With the unique feature of high speed capture and super slow motion playback, the SCHMX20C allows consumers to record fast motion at 300 frames per second for up to 10 seconds and then drastically slow down the playback of the recording. Perfect for sports fanatics looking to tape and analyze their golf-swing in slow motion, or anyone interested in getting the detail of fast-flying events that otherwise would be undetectable to the human eye, this special function opens up a new world to users.
Samsung also engineered its new HD camcorder to be significantly more powerful than previous models. The 8GB of built-in flash memory helps ensure that nothing is lost for lack of space and users also have the option of recording onto high-capacity SDHC/MMC+ cards via the additional card slot.
In addition to ample memory and superb recording capabilities, the SC-HMX20C also reportedly delivers among the best still pictures of any camcorder on the market. The SC-HMX20C has a few unique features traditionally found on digital still cameras such as a pop-up strobe flash, automatic built-in lens cap and advanced face detection to automatically bring facial features into crisp focus, delivering high-quality images.
At only 10.9 ounces, the SC-HMX20C fits easily into the palm for quick-and-easy shooting. For further convenience, the SC-HMX20C comes equipped with features that make it simple to use. Samsung’s proprietary swivel hand-grip makes it possible to record from multiple angles, including regular and low-angle shots, while the 2.7-inch wide-aspect touchscreen LCD makes editing on the fly easy. Additionally, the iCheck function lets the user know how much memory and battery life remains to ensure not a second is lost. Finally, Samsung has designed the SC-HMX20C to be both stylish and ergonomically correct. Its design utilizes trends seen in the fashion and car industries, resulting in a camcorder that’s as elegant as it is practical. The SC-HMX20 will be available in May 2008. Tokyo Essay – Night view in Tokyo with WB500

Already the 7th posting! At the beginning, to be honest, I wasn’t quite sure if I could make it through the regular posting. Fortunately enough, I think I am doing quite well~ :-) As mentioned in the last posting, I planned to share editing tips to make interesting photos. However, due to an unexpected turn of events, I shifted the schedule a bit. Instead, let me take you through Tokyo through photos today. An unexpected trip! A little present in my ordinary life. Curious about what lies ahead? ( I hope ) Come on, join me in a little walk through Tokyo through the lens of WB500.
I boarded the plane looking forward to the white cherry blossoms decorating the whole Tokyo. But I guess I was a little late. Couldn’t see the much hoped for sun-shower either.. I guess I had my dreams to high… : ( The pompous cherry blossoms decorating the park were nowhere to be seen… Sad to see the flowers fade, people were trying to capture the last of the flowers before they shed, and so was Ca’em.

Brandy at beauty shot with samsung WB500

Today’s I’ve taken pictures of Brandy using beauty shot.
Beauty shot mode definitely helps to make the face appear creamy and white.
Let’s check out the effect of the shot on Brandy… Vroom!!!!

Brandy.. you are a female cat.. after all, right?~♡
It takes Regdolls four years to grow up and Brandy is 1 year and 9 months old
So, she still has a little over 2 years to go!
A sexier and lovelier Brandy in store~ Mom SO PROUD! Kkkkkkk
Hmhm!!!! So… Did you enjoy the pictures?
Beauty shot is a function that recognizes people’s face and makes the skin appear brighter and removes the spots…
But the camera doesn’t quite effectively recognize animal’s face.
And the shutter speed is a little slow. (Sure, I had a hard time. :’-()
Too bad that Brandy’s pictures failed to effectively illustrate the difference compared to shots of people…
Still, the beauty shot gives a creamy touch to the fur’s texture.
On average, the photo itself is a little brighter than normal mode,
And gives a ‘softer’ feel overall.
A round of applause to our kind model, Brandy!!! Clap Clap!! hehe

Haptic Digital Camera Samsung ST10, Close-up shot test

ST10 supports Super Macro function. Super Macro is a sort of close-up shot functions which make it possible to take closer shot than regular close-up shots. ST10’s Super Macro is good for 1-5cm close-up shots. Now, let’s investigate how well the Super Macro function works.

First, I took a shot of the red square area in the regular $2 bill using ST10’s Super Macro function.
Next, this is the image that is resized after shooting the area.
And then, I cropped the central area as the original size. ST10’s Super Macro function is outstanding enough to express the paper texture of the bill.
Likewise, I cropped Thomas Jefferson’s eye part in the original image of $2 bill.Close-up function is one of the fun and important features in compact digital cameras. ST10 has a superior close-up feature compared to other compact digital cameras. Since it’s a spring time with the flowers blooming and bees flying, (though it’s hot as summer) this close-up function will be more useful.

Samsung Camera Haptic ST10

I incidentally participated in the promotion, and I have an opportunity to experience a new digital camera. Because it s not released yet, I try to put up my review with great pleasure. First time is always good to me.
Most of all, I expect this, because it s made by Samsung and Jang Dong Gun VLUU.
This ST10 is haptic touch screen type. Whenever touching, we can feel vibration. It s really funny. (I don t have a haptic phone, so it s really amazing.)
Such a great appearance. It comes with black, silver, gold, and red. The black one is simple, but most of the cameras are black, so I chose the red. I think it was a good choce.

SAMSUNG VLUUGrapher_ST10

Nina became a Samsung VLUUGrapher for the good opportunity. To be honest, on January, the recommendation mail came, but because I didn t like mandatory posting, so I just let it go. (The model was the WB500.)
This time, I got the mail again for a new model, so I decided to try. (Thank you very much for this great opportunity.)
The model I will use until April is the brand new digital camera ST10. There are 4 colors such as blue, silver, black, and red, and I got the red one. I was so glad, because I loved to have the red color. I expect this more, since it supports PMP and MP3.
The reason I expect this ST10 is that it has haptic touch screen LCD. Full touch for the haptic cell phone is also applied to this ST10, so we can deal with menu, focus setting, and delete by touch. I used other touch phones and S-W5500 from Samsung, but I actually didn t understand the touch function for digital cameras, but it s really marvelous for me.

Smart Camcorder For Smart Consumer

Camcorder R10, a wild card prepared by Samsung under the slogan of “The ultimate goal of imaging device is to excel in both moving pictures and still pictures” will be launched in April. Following its first debut at CES2009, the product attracted the interest of many and the word-of-mouth is rapidly spreading among early adopters, adding to the heightened expectations. As the smallest and lightest full HD camcorder in the world, R10 is quickly winning favor among consumers. However, the key feature of R10 is the slanted lens, which immediately grabs your attention! Naturally, you will ask, “Why? Why is the lens slanted?” To the question, Hui-sang Cho, assistant manager responsible for product planning of R10 at Samsung Digital Imaging, replies, “The answer lies in ‘out-of-the-box thinking’.

Samsung HMX-R10 camcorder set for UK

Samsung HMX-R10 camcorder set for UK
The best things come in small packages
It's been doing the rounds at various trade shows over the past few months, but now we know for sure that the Samsung HMX-R10 camcorder is coming to the UK.And it's a real beauty. Claimed to be the smallest full HD (1080p) camcorder in existence, the HMX-R10 also doubles up as a more-than-impressive 12 megapixel camera, throwing in 5x optical zoom, a 2.7-inch flip-out touch screen and a quirky design that's sure to catch the eye. The whole thing weighs just 229g too, so more power and less weight to your elbow. That design isn't some kind of frivolity either, with Samsung angling the lens so users 'can grip the camcorder in a more relaxed manner', resulting in less pressure on your wrist when filming. Nice to know they're thinking about us when they knock up these things.April is the launch date for Samsung HMX-R10 camcorder, with the price still to be confirmed. We'll guess it's not entry-level for sure.

Samsung HMX-R10 First Impressions Camcorder Review

Auto Mode
The Samsung HMX-R10 does offer an auto mode, but there are no special features that come along with it. You can simply shoot with or without manual image adjustments available. Like most of today's camcorders, the R10 has a face detection feature for use in either video or still mode.
Low Light Modes
The HMX-R10 has a Super C.Nite mode. Off, normal, and super. On last year's models, this mode brightened the image a bit, but also led to extreme oversaturation.
Scene Modes
Like most camcorders, the HMX-R10 comes with a variety of scene modes: Auto, Night, Sports, Portrait, Spotlight, Beach, Food, and Candlelight.
Zoom
The new zoom toggle on the R10 is a big improvement over last year's flimsy toggle on the HMX20 and SC-MX20 . On those models, the toggle was awkwardly positioned under the middle finger for most users. The new ergonomic design puts the zoom toggle right next to the Record button, which rests easily under your thumb. We're not accustomed to operating a zoom with the thumb, but at least it offers more dexterity and control than the middle finger. Since we weren't operating a final model, it still remains to be seen whether Samsung has given the user a multi-variable speed zoom. We look forward to seeing whether this toggle will be up to the task of careful zoom control.
Zoom Ratio
The HMX-R10 is the first of Samsung's camcorders to use their new Intelli-Zoom technology. This means that the true optical zoom is just 5x optical, but the Intelli-Zoom allows you to achieve an 8x zoom without sacrificing image quality. Canon introduced the technology last year, and we expect to see it on more models in the future.
Focus
There are three methods of focus on the HMX-R10—the same three methods featured on the SC-HMX20. As always, you can rely on the automatic focus, which usually fares quite well. You can do a manual focus by using a touch screen scale (see below).
Finally, you can use Samsung's TouchPoint system, which lets you just touch the object you want in focus and the camcorder will automatically focus on that object. None of these systems are as good as a manual focus that lets you use a joystick or lens ring to achieve the perfect focus.

Samsung premiers flash-based HMX20C camcorder

Another Samsung product making an appearance at CES is the SC-HMX20C, a new digital camcorder. Unlike many such devices the 20C plays host to built-in flash memory, amounting to 8GB; this works in addition to any SDHC/MMC+ cards inserted into the camera. Video is recorded on a 6.4-megapixel CMOS sensor with electronic image stabilization, and is generally captured in 1080p at 30fps. The camera is also able to capture at 300fps in 10-second bursts, allowing the creation of slow-motion sequences.
When shooting as a still camera, the 20C can interpolate images up to eight megapixels, apply electronic flash, and expose for faces using built-in recognition software. All image results are checked on a 2.7-inch LCD, and a swiveling handgrip permits shots from odd angles, including low ones. The camera will be released in May of this year.

What’s New in the SC-HMX20C?

Compared to its predecessor, the SC-HMX10A, the SC-HMX20C moves up to a full 1080p, which seems to have no affect on it’s recording time compared to 1080i on this unit. Both resolutions give you approximately 71 minutes of maximum quality HD on the 8GB of internal memory vs the 4GB of internal memory on the SC-HMX10A. The SC-HMX20C also ads in a slow motion capture feature that allows you to take 10 second clips at 60 fps for those more dramatic slow motion moments. When you play back a 10 second clip, it actually stretches itself back out to 50 seconds. The results look very similar to some cameras that record 300 fps clips.
I was curious to see if they improved the somewhat limited camera functionality. Although you still can’t push the button to immediately take a picture (it just beeps at you saying no now), they did implement something called “Dual Recording” which essentially allows you to take a still capture while recording in any of the video recording modes. Of course, this means you are limited to the resolution that you are recording and you can’t just hit the photo button without recording. Still limited, but at least they’re trying to improve it. Samsung also adds a real flash to the camera and a Megapixel upgrade from 1.61 to 6.4 (4.0 effective) gives the camera improved resolution for stills.

Samsung SC-HMX20C HD camcorder review

Shortly after spending some quality time with the world's most diminutive HD camcorder, we were able to corral another remarkably small competitor -- one that shoots 1080p. Samsung's SC-HMX20C wasn't built to fit into the average back pocket, but its array of features more than made up for the size. After a week of wrapping our palm around this critter and capturing clips from everything ranging from America's pastime to a leisurely walk in the 'hood, we're ready to disclose our thoughts on the matter. Interested? Catch the full review after the jump.
Design Samsung's SC-HMX20C is small. Real small when you consider the resolution at which this thing captures at. The unit can fit within one's palm, and while it is a bit heavy, toting it around in a cargo pocket wouldn't be entirely out of the realm of possibility. The device itself felt extremely solid, the flip-out LCD was sturdy, and overall, we were very impressed with how it fit in our hands when shooting. It should be noted that the SDHC / MMC+ card slot is tucked behind the same door as the battery, but it's not like you have to remove the battery to access the card slot. Additionally, the video outputs are hidden behind a small door which is concealed behind the flip-out LCD. Not a problem for us -- just letting the quirks be known.User InterfaceTouchscreen LCD monitors can always be hit or miss, particularly on handheld camcorders. We're pleased to say that the flip-out touch panel on this unit was undoubtedly useful and well implemented. The screen did have a thing for maintaining fingerprints, but it never became more than a minor annoyance. It recognized haphazard touches and only misread our true intentions once or twice during an entire week. Our only real dig here was the slight pause between menu switches; momentary lag was introduced when traversing between a deep menu item and one closer to the top, but it never proved to be anything more than a slight irritation. The menu system itself was exceptionally well-crafted. A "Quick Menu" button pulled up the six most popular selections (Storage Medium, Resolution, White Balance, Focus, Exposure and Shutter), and at no time did we feel the screen was too cluttered with options. The in-depth menus were yet again well thought out and easy to navigate, making on-the-fly tweaks relatively easy to achieve. Switching between Movie Mode, Photo Mode and Playback Mode was even simpler, as Samsung provided a dedicated button just beside the Photo Capture button solely for swapping between that trio. We also appreciated the twin record and zoom buttons; users can zoom in / out and stop / start recording by hitting the thumb buttons on the unit itself or by selecting them on the flip-out display. Again, a minor -- albeit thoughtful -- touch. Overall, the SC-HMX20C was designed for the average joe / jane to pick up and fire up without ever having to tear into the user's manual. Sure enough, the only time we ever referenced said pamphlet was just to make sure we didn't miss anything while surfing around the UI ourselves. Granted, this also speaks volumes about its intended audience. Yeah, it does 1080/30p and 1080/60i (along with 480/60p and an SD-only SlowMotion mode), but this camcorder isn't made for professionals. That being said, folks obsessed with archiving every single family outing in stunning HD will find plenty to love.

Samsung announces ST10 camera

Samsung has announced the new ST10, the world's first camera to feature face recognition technology, combined with a Haptic Interface. Integrated into a 3-inch HVGA touchscreen, users will feel physical feedback (i.e a vibrating sensation that will let you know you have pressed something) that Samsung says will give a "feel for greater control" over the camera's functions. However it's the face recognition system in the 9-megapixel ST10 that Samsung really want to boast about. The technology actually recognises the people you're taking photos of, and then prioritises the friends and family you photograph the most. The camera can automatically classify photos according to who is in them, making it easier for you to find photos with certain people in them. Additions to the face recognition are features such as smile shutter mode, which will only take a photo when a smile is detected on a recognised person, and blink shutter mode, that will immediately take another shot if any recognised face blinks. Other features on the ST10 include an in-built Personal Multimedia Player with integrated MP3 player, Digital Image Stabilisation and Samsung's new "Smart Scene Recognition" with 11 different picture pre-settings. A nice addition is the Angle/Composition Guide setting which will be handy when asking people to take your photo on holiday. Simply take a ghost picture of your desired shot and a template will be displayed when you pass the camera over to them, making sure you get the shot you want. The ST10 will be available in a number of colours and is due to hit our shelves in February, priced at £179.

Samsung ST10

The Samsung ST10 is a 9 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens. The LCD screen incorporates touch control. Samsung has packed a fair amount of technology into the ST10. This allows it to be used as a portable media player with features such as MP3 playback, voice recording, text viewer, portable hard drive and a camcorder.Like other recent additions from Samsung the ST10 can be charged directly from a wall socket or USB port on a computer. There is no need for a dedicated charging unit. A recycle bin has been included as well. This can help you avoid the pain of lost photos that have been deleted by accident. To help you take the best possible photos a smart auto mode has been included. This helps the camera to assess common scenes and identify more about the photo you are about to take. This should help the camera to decide on the optimum settings to use for a picture. A smart album feature helps you to categorize and find photos more easily. This can be by date and time, subject, colour or even a favourite face. The ST10 is available in black, silver and red.

My outstanding haptic digital camera

Samsung digital imaging is releasing the ST10 having haptic function, 3 inch touch screen, and innovative smart functions.

Samsung Digital Imaging ST10

The biggest theme of digital devices in 2009 is ‘TOUCH’, I think. More advanced touch type cell phones are popular (Recently released cell phones are touch type), and a lot of MP3 players supporting touch LCD has been released. (Samsung P3, Cowon S9, and iPod touch show the convenience of touch interface.) On top of that, we can meet touch screen interface devices anywhere such as electronic dictionary and navigation.
Digital cameras which were considered as a button type also satisfy users with touch interface products. This time, I’m going to review the VLUU ST10 from Samsung digital imaging. This is a compact digital camera adopting haptic UI, and supports MP3 and PMP functions. Also, by adopting unique lens cover, perfect self shot is possible.

I could see there were many distinguishing things from others. Is the touch type more convenient than other products? Let’s check it out with test

SAMSUNG ST10 REVIEW

Filling life with fun, ‘ST10’To have fun time, it’s the best to spend time with friends, lovers, and family, but a little record of my days alone can fill my diary sufficiently. As my life partner, the Samsung multimedia camera which has fun of touch, hearing, and taking is the best. This concept is Samsung’s own from long time ago. This year, the Samsung has started to be on the market with the ST10 adopting haptic touch screen LCD and multimedia function such as MP3/MPM/Text viewer

A beautiful, touch-sensitive screen is the icing on the cake for the feature-packed Samsung NV100HD point-and-shoot camera.

If you often find that your friends wander off, birds take flight, or the sun dips below the horizon before you can press the shutter or adjust settings accordingly, the Samsung NV100HD might be a good point-and-shoot camera option for you. The NV100HD eliminates a lot of the menu-diving that other feature-heavy digital cameras require.
The Samsung NV100HD's 3in touchscreen makes the camera a cinch to operate, and the icons that border the screen give an instant view of all your settings. Tapping each icon with your finger pops up a menu of alternatives. If you can't remember what each icon means, holding your finger on it for a moment brings up a written description.
Camera news and reviews
The screen itself is a beauty, too. Though 230,000-pixel displays are now common on digital cameras, the Samsung NV100HD ups the ante with a beautiful 460,000-pixel LCD. It renders images sharply, offers plenty of contrast in bright light, and lends a sophisticated look to the icons, text, and user-interface animations. The camera has just a few physical buttons - power, shutter release, zoom control, menu, and playback - plus a mode-selector dial.
While the touchscreen is a major draw, the Samsung NV100HD doesn't skimp on photographic features, either. The 3.6x-optical-zoom lens has a 28mm wide angle that works perfectly for expansive landscape shots, and the camera's optical stabilization reduces the effects of shaky hands. Automatic face detection sets the focus and optimizes the exposure for portraits, and the additional smile and blink modes delay the shutter until your subjects look their best.
The single manual mode is a bit limited, but it's nice to have: you can set the exposure time, and you have a choice of two aperture settings at each zoom level. The Samsung NV100HD's built-in flash pops up from the top of the camera, giving it a little extra distance from the lens and reducing the chance of red-eye in your portraits. Should you catch the dreaded red-eye anyway, the camera's automatic red-eye removal function works well, too.
We took the Samsung NV100HD to the new California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco to put it through its paces. For most shots, the camera performed with no discernable shutter lag. Sometimes, however, we saw 'capturing' and 'processing' messages on the screen for tough low-light and macro shots of small plants and animals, so in such cases the shot-to-shot times could suffer.
We loved the ability to touch the screen to select the focus point, but our experiments with the manual mode often led us to set the depth of field too narrow. Fortunately, the Samsung NV100HD's high-resolution screen made zooming into the image and spotting mistakes easy.
In our hands-on, informal tests, photos looked sharp with accurate colours. The densely packed sensor produced some noise in low-light shots, but it has enough resolution that you're less likely to blow up your photos so much that you'll notice.
The Samsung NV100HD scored well across the board in the more-formal Test Centre jury evaluations. It earned especially high marks for its low levels of distortion, which indicates a good match between the optics and the resolution of the sensor. On the other hand, it performed poorly in our battery tests, requiring a recharge of its lithium ion cell on average after just 195 shots - well short of the counts of 400-plus shots per charge that we've seen from many other point-and-shoots.
The Samsung NV100HD's 14.7Mp resolution may seem like overkill, but if you're starting to use the HDTV in your living room for more than just watching TV, it could make sense. In addition to offering plenty of resolution for editing, cropped shots, and big prints, the 10Mp widescreen mode captures images that fit an HDTV just right.
If you don't have an SD Card media slot on your TV, Samsung's optional docking cradle may appeal to you, despite its £45 price tag. It comes with a tiny remote control (recent Samsung HDTV remotes also operate the docking cradle) for browsing your images, setting up slide shows, and watching videos directly from the camera.
The cradle also charges the battery, and the dock's included HDMI cable means you'll get a top-quality connection. The Samsung NV100HD captures 720p video at up to 30 frames per second, which is plenty for most home movies. Unfortunately, automatic face detection isn't an option during video capture.

Samsung HMX-H106 First Camcorder With 64GB SSD, Looks Like a Thermos

Samsung's HMX-H106 camcorder's claim to fame is that it's the first camcorder with a built-in 64GB SSD. But its smoother-than-usual lines make it look like a Thermos I could pour thirst-quenching fruit punch in.
It, along with its 32GB and 16GB brothers, the H105 and H104, respectively, have a 10x zoom lens with optical stabilization and storage expansion via SDHC card slot. They all shoot with H.264 compression, giving you 12 hours of "full HD" footage on the 64GB H106, and six on the H105, and so on. No word on pricing, but you can buy the H106 in April.
SAMSUNG EXTENDS FULL-HD CAMCORDER FAMILY
WITH INTRODUCTION OF NEW H-SERIES
New HMX-H106 is the World’s First Camcorder to Feature a 64GB Internal SSD
LAS VEGAS, N.V., January 5, 2009 – Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today extended its family of full-HD digital camcorders with four new models - the HMX-H106, HMX-H105, HMX-H104, and HMX-H100. Samsung’s new H-Series offer users high-performance, full-HD video, a renowned Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan HD lens with Optical Image Stabilization, and industry leading design; however, most notable is the use of internal Solid State Drives to provide onboard memory.
The HMX-H106, Samsung’s new flagship full-HD digital camcorder, is the world’s first to feature an internal 64GB Solid State Drive (SSD)*. Samsung’s renowned SSD technology offers a substantial advantage over the use of Hard Disk Drives (HDD) in a digital camcorder, providing consumers with higher performing and more durable internal memory. In comparison to HDD, Samsung’s SSD technology is more lightweight and compact, operates silently with very low heat emission, and features no moving parts, which significantly reduces overall power consumption and enhances reliability. No moving parts also make SSD technology more durable and resistant to shock and vibrations, which pose a considerable threat to the performance of HDD based digital camcorders. Additionally, Samsung’s SSD technology is faster than HDD, including quicker boot-up and read/write speeds which is required for the amount of data recorded in full-HD resolution. When actively reading and writing data, Samsung’s SSD technology consumes approximately 1/8th of the power of a comparable HDD**.
The HMX-H105 and HMX-H104 offer 32GB and 16GB SSDs, respectively, and like the HMX-H106, also allow consumers to expand memory capacity using an SD/SDHC memory card. The HMX-H100 does not feature an internal SSD and requires the use of a SD/SDHC memory card.
The new H-Series full-HD digital camcorders also utilize H.264 compression, which significantly increases recording time. At full-HD resolution and when set to fine mode, users can record up to three hours directly to the 16GB HMX-H104, six hours to the 32GB HMX-H105, and an unparalleled 12 hours to the 64GB HMX-H106.
Producing a high-quality image starts at the lens, which is highly regarded as one of the most important components of a camcorder. Precision optics are paramount in helping produce inspiring video and Samsung’s H-Series camcorders underscore this assessment by incorporating world renowned Schneider optics. The camcorders’ Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan HD lens features a 10x optical zoom and is paired with Samsung’s new Optical Image Stabilizer to help reduce the blur found in footage as a result of vibrations and hand shake.
The Schneider lens also features a 37mm wide-angle focal length. Unlike other camcorders offering a typical angle of view of 40~50mm, the H-Series’ 37mm wide-angle Schneider lens allows users to fit more of their desired scene into the frame, making the camcorder ideal for recording large groups of family or friends, breathtaking landscapes or even capturing all the action at sporting events.
The trusted Schneider lens also helps capture remarkably clear and sharp video with accurate color reproduction. The H-Series’ direct HDMI connections allow consumers to effortlessly enjoy their full-HD content on their HDTV without the need for proprietary docking cradles. Consumers can also utilize the camcorders to take more than just stunning high-definition video, as each offers a built-in strobe flash and the ability to capture 4.7 mega-pixel digital still photos.
“This new series of high-definition digital camcorders clearly speaks to Samsung’s commitment to providing today’s consumers with the most advanced and highest-performing digital imaging technology,” said Tony Sorice, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Digital Imaging at Samsung Electronics America. “Our ability to leverage the synergies that exist across our various businesses in the design and manufacture of digital camcorders and cameras, allows us to better meet customer demands and bring higher-performing digital imaging solutions to market faster and more efficiently.”
At the heart of Samsung’s new H-Series of full-HD digital camcorders is a high-performance CMOS imaging sensor. Measuring 1/4.5 inches, the CMOS sensor boasts 2.2 mega-pixels and yields impressive light sensitivity helping enhance the overall imaging experience for the end-user. The camcorders also offer a large 2.7 inch touch-screen LCD, which serves as the gateway to the camcorders’ comprehensive suite of features. The swiveling LCD also gives users access to key camcorder controls, including record and zoom. When utilized in conjunction with Samsung’s proprietary swivel grip, the additional placement of controls on the LCD screens allow users to effortlessly control the camcorder at low or high angles.
The camcorders also feature a HD Time Lapse recording mode that will give consumers the ability to experiment with their creativity. When shooting in the Time Lapse recording mode, the camcorder will record a single image at an interval pre-selected by the user, either 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, or 30 seconds, and will save each image as one single movie file.

Samsung HMX-R10 Full HD Camcorder

The Samsung HMX-R10 camcorder is Full HD and has a C-MOS Sensor and a 5x optical zoom. It can capture a still digital image at 9 mega pixels, which is more than some digital cameras can, and has a 2.7" swivel LCD touchscreen. The R10 also features a HD Time Lapse recording mode which will record an image at pre-set intervals such as 1,3,5,10 or 30 seconds and then save each one as a movie clip.
We like the fact that Samsung have ensured that the HMX-R10 camcorder is ergonomically designed to reduce stress on the wrist by thoughtfully angling the lens upwards to point at the subject. This is to aid the grip of the camcorder so the wrist remains relaxed, therefore less stress. This little beauty will be available in April 2009 and will be priced at around £300.00.

We're not sure what to make of this High-Definition capsule from space. Or is it a flashlight?

Today Samsung announced what appears to be a scaled-down model of a subway car from the future. The Samsung HMX-R10 is one of the most peculiar looking High-Definition camcorders we've ever come across. The lens is angled upward at 25-degrees, to prevent wrist fatigue and the Samsung HMX-R10 is exceedingly compact. We love its brushed silver body, even though the camcorder looks like an oversized silver bullet or swanky flashlight. Inside, the Samsung HMX-R10 has a 9-megapixel 1/2.33" CMOS sensor, which means this camcorder is geared toward digital imaging. Aside from being able to capture 9-megapixel still images, the Samsung HMX-R10 has a 5x optical zoom and records full-HD video via SD/SDHC cards. Samsung managed to cram a 2.7" LCD on the Samsung HMX-R10, in addition to HDMI and Component terminals. No word on Image Stabilization yet, but the tiny Samsung HMX-R10 will certainly need a sufficient shake reduction system due to its miniscule size. We can't wait to see the reactions of innocent bystanders when we test this strange thing in public. The Samsung HMX-R10 is set to ship this summer.

Special Review Samsung WB500

Evolution of compact cameras as a new developmentLately, Dslr cameras with live view function have come out one by one, and recent release of a Dslr camera with video recorder have been brought to our attention. Compact cameras contributed a lot in enabling this, because they are the first to have applied a convergence concept. It seems that compact cameras have played a role as a tester that tries and applies a new technology. That’s how the evolution has taken place, and it’s adding its speed more and more. Therefore, it can be said that newly-released compact cameras with outstanding specifications announces a new start in the technological development. A newly release from Samsung in 2009 is WB500.
